Product Overview
A10VO is a variable swashplate piston pump made for open-circuit hydraulics. The drive shaft turns the cylinder block, the pistons follow the swashplate angle, and oil is pushed out toward the working circuit. Change the swashplate position and the pump changes displacement. So the machine does not have to live with one fixed flow every time the shaft turns.
We mainly build three versions: Series 31, Series 52 and Series 53. Series 31 covers the higher pressure side of this group, with 280 bar nominal and 350 bar maximum pressure. Series 52 and 53 sit at 250 / 315 bar and cover a slightly different group of frame sizes. Series 53 also gives more room on the control side, including proportional and electro-hydraulic arrangements on selected builds. Series 31 covers sizes 18–100 in the current standard range, with size 140 also existing as a larger frame; Series 52/53 together cover sizes 10–100.
One point worth clearing up: A10VO and A10VSO should not be treated as the same pump name. The basic open-circuit swashplate principle is closely related, and older Series 31 material can place both families around the same platform. That still does not make the complete order codes interchangeable. A10VO has its own mobile and machine-oriented programs, including Series 52 and 53, while A10VSO has developed mainly through industrial hydraulic programs. Shaft, mounting, controller and port arrangement still decide whether a replacement actually fits.
For us, that means one thing: we do not quote an A10VO by displacement alone. A photo saying "71" is not enough. Series number first. Then controller, rotation, shaft, mounting face and port plate.

How It Works
1) The shaft starts the pumping cycle
The shaft turns the cylinder block. As it rotates, the pistons follow the swashplate and move back and forth inside the bores.
That movement draws oil in and pushes it out again.
2) Oil moves through the pump
When a piston moves outward, the chamber fills with oil from the inlet side. As it comes back, the oil is forced toward the pressure port and into the hydraulic system.
Pump flow depends mainly on displacement and shaft speed.
3) Flow changes with the swashplate
The swashplate does not have to stay at one angle.
Reduce the angle and piston travel becomes shorter, so the pump delivers less oil. Increase it and flow goes back up.

Most replacement jobs start with a code. Then the pictures arrive. Sometimes the code says Series 31 but the controller in the photo does not match. Sometimes the customer only has the shaft side. We would rather stop and check than ship a pump that bolts on but cannot work with the machine control.

1) Is A10VO a fixed or variable pump?
It is a variable pump. Changing the swashplate angle changes the piston stroke, so flow can go up or down while the shaft keeps running.
2) How are Series 31, 52 and 53 different?
Series 31 has the higher pressure class, at 280 bar nominal and 350 bar maximum. Series 52 and 53 are rated at 250/315 bar. The available sizes and control options also differ between the three series.
3) Is A10VO the same as A10VSO?
No. The working principle is similar, especially on some Series 31 models, but the order codes and product ranges are different. We do not recommend matching them by displacement only.
4) Which control should I use?
Start with what the machine needs to control. DR is mainly for pressure. DFR adds flow control. DFLR can also limit power on suitable Series 31 pumps. Some Series 53 versions offer electrical proportional control as well.
5) Can I add another pump behind it?
On some versions, yes. Through-drive options are available, but the second pump still has to match the shaft torque and mounting limits.
6) Does A10VO need a case-drain line?
Yes. The housing needs a drain line back to tank, with as little back pressure as possible. The pump case should also be filled before startup.
7) How clean should the oil be?
For Series 52 and 53, ISO 4406 20/18/15 is a useful minimum target. Better filtration is needed when the oil runs hot or viscosity drops.
8) What information do you need for a quote?
The full pump code is best. If that is not available, send the nameplate, series, shaft, ports, mounting face, rotation, control type, working pressure, speed and quantity.
