A4VG

The A4VG is a swashplate-type variable displacement axial piston pump for use in closed hydraulic circuits. The series is intended for hydrostatic drives in mobile equipment.

Flow is adjusted by changing the swashplate angle. The pump is available in a range of sizes and control options for different transmission requirements. Typical applications include travel drives, working drives, and traction systems in mobile machinery.

Key Features & Benefits

Closed-loop setup: Oil goes pump → motor → pump, skips the tank entirely. You get a tight circuit that can actually grab energy back when the machine brakes.

Charge pump built in: Tiny pump grafted on the side keeps the loop fed, tops off what leaks out, and powers extras like a cooling fan or the steering circuit.

Speed anywhere you want it: Swashplate tilts from flat to full steep with nothing in between. No gear steps, no RPM jumps. Just dial it where you need it.

Reverses without valves: Push the swashplate past zero, oil flips direction, motor spins backward with full grunt. Dig → dump → spin around, all from the driver's seat.

Small package, big output: A4VG doesn't eat up much room for what it moves. Matters when you're fitting ten systems into a compact's frame.

Pick your control flavor: Pressure limiter stops you before something breaks. Electric signal ties into a joystick or your CAN network. Load-sensing cuts fuel burn when you're idling or doing light work.

Takes a beating: Pistons and valve plate are case-hardened. Dirt gets in? Pressure spikes? It keeps running where a gear pump would seize or strip.

Not picky about oil: Mineral, synthetic, biodegradable - whatever's in your tank. Works cold, works hot, doesn't care much either way.

How It Works

The A4VG starts with a cylinder block spinning on the drive shaft. Pistons sit in bores drilled around the centerline, slipper pads at the bottom pressing against a tilted plate - the swashplate - that doesn't rotate.

Block swings a bore past the inlet. Swashplate pulls the piston back. Space opens up, oil rushes in. Bore keeps rotating, crosses into the pressure zone. Swashplate rams the piston forward. Oil gets pushed out. Over and over, every bore, every revolution. The valve plate at the end of the block has two kidney-shaped slots cut into it - they line up with suction and discharge at the right moment, keeps everything timed.

Flow? Tilt the swashplate more. Pistons go deeper, more oil per turn. Back it off, stroke shrinks, flow drops. A servo piston inside the housing adjusts this angle on the fly. Pressure signal, electric signal, either works.

Closed-loop, ports A and B go straight to a motor. Oil just circles between the two. Swashplate tilts past center, flow flips, motor reverses - no directional valve needed anywhere. A charge pump on the side keeps topping off the low-pressure side. Covers leakage. Keeps the circuit from going dry.

FAQ Display Content

1. Is the A4VG pump compatible with Rexroth A4VG series?

Yes. Our A4VG is a direct replacement for Bosch Rexroth A4VG pumps. Mounting flanges, shaft dimensions, port locations, and control interfaces are identical. We recommend sending us your existing pump's nameplate photo for final confirmation, as some sub-variants have minor port or control differences.

2. What is the difference between A4VG and A10VSO pumps?

The A4VG is designed for closed-loop hydrostatic transmission (mobile machinery travel drives) and includes an integrated charge pump. The A10VSO is an open-loop pump typically used in industrial hydraulic power units. A4VG operates bidirectionally in a sealed circuit; A10VSO returns oil to a tank and operates in one direction (though reversible with external valving).

3. Can I order a single A4VG pump for testing?

Yes. MOQ is 1 unit for sample orders. We can ship via DHL/FedEx with 3-5 day lead time for in-stock models. Samples are available with standard control configurations (hydraulic pressure compensator or electric proportional). Custom control options require 10-15 days.

4. What maintenance intervals are recommended?

First oil change: 50 hours (removes break-in particles)
Regular oil change: Every 500 hours or 6 months, whichever comes first
Filter replacement: Every 250 hours or when pressure drop exceeds 1.5 bar
Charge pump inspection: Every 2000 hours
Overhaul interval: 8000-10,000 hours depending on operating conditions
Always use ISO 18/16/13 or cleaner hydraulic fluid and replace filters on schedule to prevent premature wear.

5. Do you provide custom control configurations?

Yes. We offer:
Hydraulic pressure compensator (standard)
Electric proportional control (0-10V, 4-20mA, PWM, CAN-bus)
Load-sensing with pressure cutoff
Manual override lever
Custom port orientations and shaft options
Send us your system schematic and we'll recommend the best control configuration. Custom orders typically add 5-10 days to lead time.

6. What is the warranty coverage?

1-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and premature wear under normal operating conditions. Warranty excludes damage from contamination, overpressure, incorrect fluid, or operation outside specified temperature/speed ranges. Extended warranties available for bulk orders.

7. How do I size the right A4VG model for my application?

Send us:
Required flow rate (L/min) at operating speed (rpm)
System pressure (bar)
Input shaft speed and power available
Application type (excavator, tractor, loader, etc.)
Our engineers will calculate the correct displacement and recommend frame size, control type, and charge pump pressure. We typically respond within 24 hours with a sizing report and quotation.

8. Can A4VG pumps be paired with any hydraulic motor?

A4VG pumps work best with closed-loop axial piston motors (such as A4FM, A6VM, or equivalent). The charge pump must be sized to match motor displacement and system leakage. We can supply matched pump-motor pairs with pre-configured charge circuits and flushing valves. Contact us with your motor specifications for compatibility confirmation.
