A10VO28

A10VO28 is usually chosen for smaller open-circuit hydraulic systems. The 28 means 28 cc/rev at full displacement. Inside the pump, the cylinder block turns with the shaft and the pistons run against the swashplate. Change the swashplate angle and the pump delivers more or less oil.

There are several versions around this size, mainly Series 31, 52 and 53. They may all be called "28", but that does not make them interchangeable. Series 31 is rated for 280 bar nominal and 350 bar maximum pressure. Series 52 and 53 use a 250/315 bar pressure class. The housing, controller, port arrangement and through-drive setup can also be different.

This size is often seen on compact excavators, farm machines, road equipment, handling machines and smaller power units. For replacement work, we normally start with the full model code. Matching only the displacement can easily lead to the wrong pump.

Key Features & Benefits

Variable output, not fixed flow

The swashplate changes the displacement while the shaft keeps turning, so the pump can deliver more or less oil as the machine needs it.

28 cc size

A compact choice for machines where space is tight but fixed displacement no longer gives enough control.

Series 31, 52 and 53

Pressure ratings are not the same. Series 31 works in the 280/350 bar range. Series 52 and 53 use 250/315 bar.

Up to 3,000 rpm

With suitable inlet conditions, the 28 size can run at 3,000 rpm at full displacement.

Different control options

Depending on the series, the pump can be supplied with pressure control, pressure-and-flow control or selected electronic control setups.

Through-drive available on some builds

Another pump can be added at the rear, provided the interface and shaft load are suitable.

Shaft and port choices

Different splined shafts, mounting faces and port arrangements are available to suit the machine.

Checked before production

For OEM orders, SheungChak checks the series, control, rotation, shaft and ports together. A 28 cc displacement alone is not enough to identify the correct pump.

Technical Specifications

A10VO28 Series Comparison

A10VO28 is available across Series 31, 52 and 53, but the pressure class is the first obvious difference. Series 31 uses 280 bar nominal and 350 bar maximum pressure. The 52/53 platform uses 250 and 315 bar. At maximum displacement, all three sit around the same 3,000 rpm and 84 L/min theoretical flow point.

Series 31 size 28 is listed at about 18 kg without through drive and 19.3 kg with the through-drive arrangement in the current configuration table. Series 52/53 size 28 uses a common 3/4-inch pressure port and 1-1/4-inch suction port on typical SAE layouts; exact weight and overall length move with the controller and rear interface.

Series 31 - What We Usually Check

Common control directions include:

DG direct control
DR pressure control
DRG remote pressure control
DFR pressure and flow control
DFR1 pressure and flow control with a different X-port arrangement
DFLR pressure, flow and power control on applicable builds

Series 31 also has several through-drive combinations. A rear flange matching physically does not automatically mean the second pump is acceptable-the drive torque still needs checking.

Series 52 - What Changes

Series 52 moves to the 250/315 bar pressure class. On the 28 frame, the core flow figures remain familiar: 28 cc/rev, 3,000 rpm at full displacement and about 84 L/min theoretical flow.

A lot of Series 52 replacement work comes down to the control code and rear interface. DR, DRG and pressure/flow control versions are common. Selected electro-hydraulic versions appear as well. Do not order by the "28/52" part alone.

Series 53 - More Attention on the Control Side

Series 53 shares the same basic size-28 pressure and flow figures with Series 52, but the controller side can get more involved. Proportional electrical, pressure/flow, pressure/flow/power and electronic pressure-control combinations appear in this family. That can change the length and shape of the finished pump quite a lot.

How It Works

1) Rotation starts the pumping action

Once the shaft turns, the cylinder block turns with it. The pistons ride against the angled swashplate, so they keep moving in and out as the block rotates.

2) Oil is drawn in and pushed out

As a piston moves back, oil enters through port S. On the return stroke, that oil is pushed toward port B and into the hydraulic circuit.

At full 28 cc displacement and 3,000 rpm, the theoretical flow is around 84 L/min before losses.

3) Flow changes with the swashplate angle

The pump does not stay at full output all the time. The controller can reduce the swashplate angle when less oil is needed.

Less angle means a shorter piston stroke and lower flow. When demand rises again, the pump moves back toward a larger displacement.

Model Range

For this product page, the main split is not displacement. All three versions are size 28. The real change is series, pressure class and control package.

Version

Pressure Class

Control Direction

Typical Order Situation

A10VO28/31

280 / 350 bar

DG, DR, DRG, DFR, DFR1, selected power controls

Higher-pressure replacement or machine build

A10VO28/52

250 / 315 bar

Pressure and pressure/flow controls, selected electro-hydraulic versions

Compact mobile and auxiliary hydraulic systems

A10VO28/53

250 / 315 bar

Hydraulic plus wider proportional/electronic control combinations

Machines needing a more specific control package

A10VO28 Series 31

The stronger pressure option in this group. If the old code carries /31, we normally stay with the Series 31 route unless the entire hydraulic system is being redesigned.

A10VO28 Series 52

Same 28 cc size, lower pressure class. Often found in compact mobile hydraulic layouts and tandem pump combinations.

A10VO28 Series 53

Again, 28 cc/rev, but the control package deserves more attention. A Series 53 electro-hydraulic build should never be replaced only from a front-side photo.

About Us

SheungChak is an independent OEM manufacturer of hydraulic piston pumps and motors. The A10VO28 pumps on this page are supplied through our own production program. We are not buying a finished third-party branded pump and simply sending it back out with another label.
A normal replacement enquiry starts with the model code. Then we look at the actual pump. Shaft end. Controller side. Ports. Rear housing. Sometimes two codes look close but one small detail makes the pump unusable on the machine. We would rather ask for one more photo before production than explain a wrong controller after delivery.

FAQ Display Content

1) Is A10VO28 a fixed or variable pump?

It is a variable pump. The swashplate changes piston stroke, so the pump can deliver more or less oil without stopping the shaft.

2) What changes between Series 31, 52 and 53?

Pressure is one difference. Series 31 is rated at 280/350 bar, while Series 52 and 53 use 250/315 bar.
For replacement work, that is only part of the check. Controller, ports, mounting and rear interface also matter.

3) Can Series 31 replace Series 52 or 53?

Not automatically. The fact that all three are A10VO28 does not mean they are bolt-on replacements. The full code and installation details still need checking.

4) Does A10VO28 always give 84 L/min?

No. Around 84 L/min is only the theoretical figure at 28 cc/rev and 3,000 rpm.

At 1,500 rpm, the theoretical flow is about 42 L/min. Actual output will be a little lower because of internal losses.

5) Can a second pump be fitted behind it?
On some versions, yes. Through-drive builds are available.
The rear flange, coupling and shaft load still need to be checked before matching another pump.

6) What maintenance is important?

Start with clean oil and a good inlet condition. Watch case-drain flow, temperature and any new noise.
The housing should be filled before startup, and the drain line should return freely to tank.

7) How is it different from a gear pump?

A gear pump is usually simpler and fixed displacement.
The A10VO28 can change output through the swashplate and controller. That gives more control, but the system also needs cleaner oil and better setup.

8) What do you need for a quote?

The full pump code is the best starting point.

If the tag cannot be read, send photos of the shaft, flange, ports, controller and rear housing. Series number, pressure, speed, machine type and quantity are also useful.
