A10VO45 is a 45 cc/rev pump for open-circuit systems. Its output changes with the swashplate angle, so the pump does not stay at one fixed delivery all the time. Smaller angle, less flow. Move it back and the output rises again.

The series number matters more than many buyers expect. Series 31, 52 and 53 can all appear under the A10VO45 name, but they are not built the same. Series 31 works in the 280/350 bar pressure range. Series 52 and 53 use 250/315 bar. There is also a high-speed Series 31 version for size 45, reaching 3,000 rpm and about 135 L/min theoretical flow. The standard version is lower, around 2,600 rpm and 117 L/min.

Size 45 is common on medium-duty machines where a larger pump would be unnecessary. Construction equipment, farm machinery, handling machines, road equipment and small industrial power units are typical examples.

The common Series 52/53 size-45 SAE layout uses a 1-inch pressure port, 1½-inch suction port, 7/8-14 UNF drain and 7/16-20 UNF pilot connection. Port plates and threaded-port versions can change the final interface, so the approved production drawing should still be checked before installation.

Series 31

This is normally the first direction when the machine needs the higher pressure class. Common control codes include pressure control and pressure/flow arrangements, with power-related control available on selected configurations.

The high-speed size 45 is worth mentioning separately. Same basic displacement. Different speed window. At 3,000 rpm, theoretical output rises to roughly 135 L/min. That does not mean every old Series 31 pump can simply be run faster-the actual build and inlet conditions still matter.

Series 52

Series 52 drops the nominal pressure to 250 bar but keeps the familiar 45 cc/rev frame. Standard full-displacement speed is 2,600 rpm, giving about 117 L/min theoretical flow.

Pressure control, remote pressure control and pressure/flow control builds are common. Through-drive arrangements are also possible.

Series 53

Series 53 shares much of the basic size-45 hydraulic performance with Series 52. The control side is where enquiries often get more specific.

Depending on the complete build, the wider 52/53 program includes pressure and flow control, power control, electro-hydraulic pressure control and electro-proportional displacement arrangements. That can make the controller housing look quite different even when the pumping group is still size 45.

How It Works

1) The shaft gets the piston group moving

The engine or electric motor turns the pump shaft. The cylinder block rotates with it. Inside the block, the pistons follow the angled swashplate and move back and forth as the shaft turns. That is the basic pumping stroke.

2) Oil comes in at the suction side

As piston chamber volume increases, oil is pulled into the pump through port S. A moment later, the piston moves back into its bore and pushes that oil toward pressure port B. On a standard 45 cc pump running at 2,600 rpm, the theoretical full-displacement flow is about 117 L/min. Real delivery will be a little lower once internal losses are included.

3) The controller changes how much oil is delivered
The swashplate does not have to stay at full angle. Pressure, load signal or an electrical command can move the control mechanism, depending on the pump build. Reduce the angle and piston stroke gets shorter. Flow comes down. When the circuit asks for more, the pump can move back toward a larger displacement.
