The zero causes more confusion than it should. A mechanic asks for PVH98. The plate says PVH098. Same 98.3 cc size-end of that part of the puzzle. Rotation, shaft, ports and control are still unanswered.
The back-of-the-envelope flow is 176.9 L/min at 1800 rpm. The catalog bench figure is about 170 L/min at 250 bar. Use 170 when comparing a new pump with the machine requirement. Use the theoretical number only to check the arithmetic.
The long line is where the useful detail lives. PVH098R01AD30B252000001001AB010A, for example, describes one right-hand build with a particular front end, port group and B controller. Moving one character can produce a pump that bolts up but behaves wrongly when the valve closes.
Watch the speed table too. The ordinary industrial reference is 1800 rpm at zero gauge inlet pressure. A mobile arrangement is listed at 2100 rpm and about 202 L/min. We do not borrow that faster number for an unidentified industrial unit. The valve plate and inlet both have to suit it.
Before removing the old PVH098 hydraulic pump, take one clear plate photo. After removal, photograph the shaft straight on, both main ports, controller, drain and back. If another pump was coupled behind it, show the adapter and the coupling separately.
Key Features & Benefits
- The tilted plate changes delivery without asking the drive motor to change speed.
- Standard industrial petroleum-oil versions are listed for 250 bar.
- At the compensator setting, the rotating group comes back toward neutral.
- A B control also reads the load-sense signal from the valve circuit.
- Torque control sheds flow as pressure rises; this protects the available input power.
- Mechanical and electronic displacement controls exist for less common circuits.
- A rear drive is possible, but only after checking spline, adapter and combined torque.

The table is a starting point. A suction hose that behaves at 1500 rpm can starve the same pump at 2100. Before raising speed, look at hose bore, bends, cold-oil viscosity and the pressure actually measured at the inlet.

How It Works
The shaft carries the cylinder barrel around. Pistons sit in that barrel and their slippers follow the sloping swashplate. A bore opens to the inlet while its piston moves out. Half a turn later the same piston comes in and sends oil to the pressure port.
Tilt sets the stroke. At full tilt, delivery is close to 98.3 cc per turn. Near neutral, the pistons hardly travel. That is the useful trick in a variable displacement axial piston pump: during a hold, it can keep pressure without forcing full flow across a relief.
Which signal moves the yoke depends on the controller code. An A control sees outlet pressure. A B control also sees the load-sense line. Torque and electronic versions add their own instruction. None of them can work properly with a plugged case drain or an inlet full of air.

The control letter is only one box checked. A Vickers PVH98 pump code still has to settle rotation, valve plate, shaft, front mount, port group, drain, seals, stop and design suffix. Read past the B or A.
Applications & Industries
A 98 is usually chosen because the machine needs real flow, not because it happens to fit the bracket. These five groups are sensible uses. Duty cycle and inlet layout decide whether a particular code survives in them.

About Us
SheungChak builds hydraulic piston pumps, motors and replacement parts under our own OEM production program. The PVH098 hydraulic pump supplied from us is produced as a SheungChak product.
Small pumps can actually be annoying replacement jobs. There is less room to hide a mistake. Wrong rotation and A/B swap. Wrong shaft. Wrong compensator. A 0.75-inch shaft can still be wrong if the key or projection does not match.
Our usual check is quick: nameplate, shaft photo, rear ports, controller side. For an old unit with no readable code, send the pilot diameter too. Around 82.5 mm immediately tells us a lot.

FAQ Display Content
Q: Are PVH098 and PVH98 the same size reference?
A: Yes. Both mean the 98.3 cc PVH size. Write 098 when copying the plate, and keep copying-the characters after it are the ones that settle the build.
Q: What flow does PVH098 produce at 1800 rpm?
A: 176.9 L/min by arithmetic. On the catalog test, expect about 170 L/min at 250 bar. A field flow meter also sees the effect of hot oil and wear.
Q: What is the continuous pressure rating?
A: For the standard industrial petroleum-oil build, 250 bar (3625 psi). Water glycol and other fluids change the answer, so tell us what is in the tank.
Q: Can this pump run at 2100 rpm?
A: The mobile arrangement can. Its table shows 2100 rpm at zero gauge inlet pressure. The industrial row says 1800. Find the valve-plate duty before changing a motor or pulley.
Q: What does a B controller mean?
A: B is pressure-and-flow control-the load-sense version. It needs the small signal line and the right margin. Leaving that line open or capped gives a machine that does not behave as expected.
Q: Is PVH098 interchangeable with PVM098?
A: No. They share a 98.3 cc number, not a complete design. PVM098 belongs to the 315 bar industrial family; the standard PVH098 line here is 250 bar. Controls and codes differ too.
Q: Can I change from right-hand to left-hand rotation?
A: Not as a casual workshop change. Rotation is part of the internal timing. Read R or L while looking at the shaft end and order the same direction.
Q: Does a thru-drive change the pump length?
A: Yes. The adapter adds length, and the second pump adds torque. Measure the space and check the rear spline before treating a thru-drive as a plain cover swap.
Q: Why is the actual flow lower than displacement times rpm?
A: Some oil always leaks across running clearances. Pressure, temperature and wear change how much. Displacement × rpm is a sizing check; the tested flow is the useful comparison.
Q: Is this a genuine Vickers PVH098 pump?
A: No. SheungChak makes this compatible replacement. The Vickers, Eaton and Danfoss names are used to identify the series being matched.
Q: What should I send with an inquiry?
A: Send the whole code, quantity and destination. Add five useful photos: nameplate, shaft, main ports, controller and rear face. A blurred overall photo rarely answers the hard questions.
Vickers, Eaton and Danfoss are trademarks of their respective owners. The names are used only for product identification and replacement reference. SheungChak is not affiliated with or endorsed by those trademark owners unless a quotation states otherwise.
